SDS: Creative Industries C19 Workforce Study

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) need to gather evidence to aid them in building data-informed plans and make future decisions on how best to support the creative industries through and during recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on our businesses and the activity of the various industry sectors. Thus, please read about and contribute to their Workforce Survey:

Covid-19 has had an unprecedented impact on the Creative Industries in Scotland. Large parts of the workforce have been furloughed or laid off, and when and how they may return to work remains highly uncertain. At the same time, the pandemic and the shift to home working has accelerated some developments, most obviously the shift to digital working and many individuals and organisations across the creative sector have been quick to adapt.

Skills Development Scotland is committed to supporting the sector and its workforce by enabling it to adapt to these changing circumstances. In order to do so, we need robust evidence on which to base future decisions and actions. So, we have initiated a new study into the impact of the pandemic on the sector’s workforce – both freelance and permanent employees – and would like to seek your support in encouraging a strong response from the sector. The research findings will provide evidence on how the skills system can support the needs of Scotland’s creative workforce as the sector, and the wider economy, recovers from the pandemic.

Our study partners, EKOS, have developed a short online survey for freelance and permanent employees in the creative sector. We would be really grateful if you would consider sharing the survey across your business workforce and associates, networks – especially Screen Facilities Scotland members – and via any social media groups where you know creative industries workers are connecting. The results of this survey will have an instrumental impact on skills policy, helping us to shape interventions to deliver in-demand skills across the sector. We are keen to capture as many views as possible. At no point would you be required to disclose any data that would breach GDPR

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete.
